Spine includes binder's title and decorative device of the Boston Public Library in gilt. Front cover detached from spine binding. Front pastedown includes donors' ex libris (bookplate) of the Boston Public Library identifying copy as a gift of Joshua Bates, received on September 15, 1859. Printed on antique laid papers featuring horizontal chainlines and vertical wire lines. Title page includes embossed stamp of the Boston Public Library, as well as autographs and annotations in black ink script. Recto of title page includes provenance information in pencil script. Rear pastedown includes ink stamp of the Boston Public Library Bindery, dated "SEP 18 1886"
